The 2024 Black Student Union (BSU) Summit is the first event of its kind in the Berkshires. An effort to connect BIPOC people across the Berkshires, this summit will promote professional development, engagement, wellness, and leadership within the local BIPOC student community and the Berkshires more widely. The central focus is to create a space where individuals can connect, support one another, and share their experiences in navigating the intricacies of managing and running clubs and organizations on our respective campuses. Open to the public and all students, Our mission is to address critical issues prevalent within our communities, celebrate our differences, and promote the exchange of valuable insights and tips, ultimately benefiting everyone involved.

Participants will interact with various speakers and artists through hands-on sessions including an engagement and mental health-themed poetry workshop with Margareth Ngueza Antonio, an MCLA alumna and author; a wealth-building and financial sustainability Q&A with entrepreneur Hadi B.; and a personal leadership and success strategy workshop with purpose coach Ruby Maddox.
This event will not only hold space for students and other participants but provide an opportunity for all students and community members to engage, learn, and connect through artists and creative educators of color. These speakers and performers will inspire attendees to participate, exercise leadership, and cultivate belonging in their community—whether that be a college campus or a Berkshire town.

Additionally, the summit will leverage the arts to promote self-care and wellness. Marg Ngueza Antonio (a doula and sexual assault advocate) will talk about healing through writing and fostering belonging at a PWI. Ruby Maddox will host her Direct Your Purpose workshop. Her sessions “provide organizations with a unique opportunity to align their team's purpose, values, and goals. These sessions can help you clarify your vision and create an actionable plan for your team or organization.

These sessions create a supportive and inclusive space where team members can connect, communicate, and collaborate effectively. Team members can build stronger relationships, identify shared values, and develop a deep understanding of their team's purpose.
