Emily Monosson, author of “Blight: Fungi and the Coming Pandemic” (W.W. Norton Press, July 2023) will present the 2024 Elizabeth and Lawrence Vadnais Environmental Issues Lecture at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 10, in Murdock Hall Room 218.

Monosson has written four previous books, including “Natural Defense” and “Evolution in a Toxic World.” She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and lives in Montague, Massachusetts. A Q&A session will follow the lecture.

"The Environmental Studies Department is excited to welcome Emily Monosson to campus to discuss her recent book on fungal pathogens,” said Dr. Daniel Shustack, MCLA professor of environmental science. ‘Blight: Fungi and the Coming Pandemic’ highlights some of environmental and human health concerns that arise from fungi. The threats that some fungi pose to biodiversity, ecosystems, and human food systems are some of the most pressing environmental issues today."

This event is free and open to the public. Call 413-662-5224 or email advancement@mcla.edu for more information or Zoom details. This annual lecture series is named for Professor Lawrence H. Vadnais and is sponsored by the Vadnais Endowment.
